HomeMusic! Music! Music!Mar 28, 2007

Hi, I'm Michelle and I live in Massachusetts (U.S.). As you can probably tell, I love music. I wouldn't say that music is my life, but it is a very important part of it. I've loved listening and dancing to music (especially live music) for MANY years. I've started this page to share some of my current favorites and to hopefully discover some new favorites. Enjoy!

I love a wide range of music (everything from James Morrison to Metallica - except for a lot of country and rap), but right now my favorite artist is Paolo Nutini. He's got an amazing voice and you should definitely check him out. Here are a few of my other favorites that I'm promoting right now and you should give them a listen too. :D

Paolo Nutini:
"Born and raised in Paisley, Scotland, Paolo Nutini is a 19-year-old (he's now 21) singer/songwriter blessed with a soulful, passionate voice and the natural gift of being able to tell a story in a song. Like many of the truly inspired singer/songwriters before him, Nutini has absorbed the soul of classic artists from both sides of the Atlantic and channeled it into something original, captivating, and dynamic."

James Morrison:
"It's always really difficult to describe your music to people. It's pretty much guitar blues and soul but listen to 'Better Man' and make up your own mind. I grew up on artists like Otis Redding, Al Green, Cat Stevens, The Kinks and Van Morrison. I always loved songs where the singer would sing with real soul, like they really believed in what they were singing about. Those are the kinds of songs that really stayed with me. I can't sing a song about something I don't believe in."

Teddy Geiger:
"At 17 (he's now 19 and is from upstate New York), Teddy is already writing sophisticated songs weathered with insights beyond his years. A fan of many musical genres, Teddy combines cutting edge new school pop with a love and an understanding of the soul of rock's glory days. His warm intimate vocals, candid and conversational, create a sound and sensibility uniquely his own. Teddy wrote, or co-wrote 11 of the 12 songs on his debut album, Underage Thinking. He plays guitar, piano, bass and drums on his new album. Teddy is a self-taught musician who, by the age of 8, was writing and arranging finished multi-part compositions on guitar and piano."

Back Door Slam:
"Steeped in the heavy British blues of Humble Pie and Savoy Brown, the Isle of Man's Back Door Slam blends youthful exuberance with stellar chops on its debut release." These guys are simply amazing! I can't believe that voice is coming from a 20 year-old. I love them.

Alternate Routes:
"On the opening track 'Ordinary,' Warren sings, “When you die will you be surrounded by friends? Will they pray for a heaven out loud, a hope that somehow they will see you again,” a sparse, haunting sentiment that resonates through to the final track, framing and summarizing all that is to come. 'Who Cares?' and 'Aftermath' are straightforward, driving rock tunes marked by explosive hooks and robust arrangements, while 'Hollywood' demonstrates the band’s ability to switch gears to a profoundly emotional ballad. 'Time is a Runaway,' the album’s gorgeous centerpiece, offers a melancholy take on the passage of time, set to a soaring melody, lush sounds and a hypnotic rhythm. The final track, 'Please Don’t Let It Be,' offers heartbreaking and inspiring moments, climaxing with Donnelly’s definitive guitar solo. Warren’s voice sits central to the mix while Donnelly’s guitar decorates the space around him with rough-cut chords and subtle-hued arpeggios. As a whole, the record and its plain truths ring out with honesty and straightforward but sublime rock." I love them and they're such great guys too. I saw them open for Paolo in Vermont and became hooked.
